If you own one
of these horses, please send me photos and updates periodically and I'll post
them here.
Mankins:
AKA Mikey (barn name) or Rowdy Intentions (show name)
Rowdy Intentions
was purchased in January, 2000 by Leslie Wylie, an HA Pony Clubber from Knoxville,
Tennessee. Rowdy is a 7 year old 16 hand, TB gelding out of Demons Begone,
and close relative to the famous steeplechaser, Rowdy Irishman. Rowdy and
Leslie spent six months in a working student situation with USET 2000 member
Julie Black where they honed their skills in dressage, show jumping and eventing.
They are currently competing on the east coast at prelim, have done well in
A circuit showjumping competition, foxhunted, participated in a hunter pace,
won a point--to--point and cruised through beginner novice up to prelim in
the span of one year. They've had many adventures including rescuing a friend
who was stuck in a bog and winding up in the Atlanta newspaper! All in all,
it has been a wonderful match for both of them. They plan to compete at the
USPC Nationals at the Kentucky Horse Park this summer. (photo above, Virginia
Horse Trials, prelim course, spring 2001)
Tivydale
Road: AKA Dale (barn name) or Lyrical (show name)
Dale was purchased by Sara Shine in Austin, last summer, from Lane Hutchins
in Fredericksburg, TX. Dale was just four and had been nicely started over
small fences and on the trail. Sara has been training Dale for eventing and
he has now been to four events in central Texas where he has placed first,
second, third and fourth in the green as grass division. In July she will
move him up to beginner novice and plans to show him in USCTA events by fall
or spring. Her trainer feels he will be able to get to novice or prelim in
the next two years.
Gift
Gift is a large (16.2+) gray Hanoverian warmblood gelding who was bred and
started by Chip Dalton, a Georgetown, TX warmblood and TB racehorse breeder
and trainer. Gift was sold a bit prematurely when his current owner, Nancy
Exposito, of Wallingford, CT was looking at videos for a new horse and received
another horse's video that had a short clip of Gift on the tape. She fell
in love with the way he moved. He has the finest dressage movement imaginable
with a trot so suspended it looks like slow motion. She couldn't resist
meeting him and the two hit it off famously when she came to Texas in January,
2001 to see him. Gift has just turned three and Nancy is training him for
a career in dressage.
Angelo
Angelo is another large, gray warmblood gelding, an Oldenburg TB cross,
but of unknown origin. We found him through a trainer who was bringing another
horse to Austin for videotaping. At the time, Tom Scrima, a friend and competitive
and pleasure trailrider, was looking for a big, quiet horse who would go anywhere
and do anything. Angelo didn't know much, but he had the right disposition.
His quiet, agreeable demeanor and rocking horse canter impressed Tom and his
wife Carrie, also a serious competitive trailrider. Since Tom purchased him
in February, 2001, he's been on the trails constantly, and has already won
a competitive trailride in the in the novice division and so impressed the
judge she offered to buy him. Currently Angelo and Tom are in Colorado for
the summer riding in the sand dunes and competing in the Colorado NATRC rides.
Emma
Emma was one of our horses. We had her for 11 years, but she had been outgrown
by our daughter. Emma is currently 18 and has done just about every pony club
event known to man. Sweet, beautiful, calm and gentle, she found her rider
in a D2 ten year old event rider at Curraugh in Ft. Worth, TX. She's only
been with her a few weeks at this writing, but they've already placed third
at a dressage show, second in showjumping, been to a summer camp and she's
being ridden every day. Her young rider wants to transition to large horses
from the ponies and is doing a lot of jumping. She's doing really well on
cross country, too. She jumped a park bench last week! Emma hunted several
years with Longacre Hunt and is very at home in the huntfield.
Tranando
Tranando is a lovely, naturally balanced, dapple gray 5 year-old paso fino
gelding from the Keyes Ranch in Dripping Springs, TX who has just sold to
Ken Stuts, of Morena, NY. He still hasn't left Texas but will be leaving this
week. Ken bought him as a mount for himself and his children. He plans to
use him as a pleasure trail horse, and possibly train him for competitive
trail riding. Ken and Tranando are both very enthusiastic guys so they ought
to have a lot of fun together.
